The Winsleywood Kennel was established in 1997.  Since this time the kennel has succeeded with small scale selective breeding and strives to maintain a classic type of Labrador that can show and work.

I started with a male dog “Romantic Dreamer at Winsleywood”; he was very much an old fashioned type of dog.  I learnt a great deal with him, he won many Best of Breeds at Open Shows and had limited Championship show successes although did gain his Stud Book number. My second dog didn’t quite go according to plan as he had health issues and was unable to be shown.

After much research and education I patiently waited for my foundation bitch “Nonairbra Country Pride at Winsleywood” who was a mix of Nonairbra and Thurbajen lines; an old fashioned type, classic clean lines and feminine, she was to set the type I liked and wanted to produce.  She was reasonably successful in the show ring, consistently placed and gaining her stud book number as well as demonstrating working ability and gaining a Show Gundog Working Certificate.

Her first litter was to be a challenge; I had long admired the Carpenny kennel and spent hours looking at pedigrees, old year books and photographs.  I selected the famous Int, Nord, Fin & UK Ch Carpenny Walpole as the sire for this litter; he was producing some lovely progeny at the time and had a quality and type in his lineage that I wanted to integrate with what I had.

The litter was to define my small kennel;

It produced Ch Winsleywood Waterloo JW ShCM – a classic style of dog with good leg length, balanced and stylish on the move.  He won well under both Breed and Non Breed Specialists winning 8 CC’s & 7 RCC’s.  He had a real aptitude for working and gained his full Champion status with a SGWC and went on to get a working test award and a Working Gundog Certificate on Game.

His sister Winsleywood Willow JW ShCM was also kept – a beautiful feminine bitch, old fashioned and well made, she won her way out of all of her classes, won 2 RCC’s but spent a great deal of time in the shadow of her brother.  She proved herself well as a brood bitch producing two lovely litters; the first was an outcross to Sh Ch Rocheby Statesman.  I kept Winsleywood Wild Rose from this litter, not quite what I wanted as is quite a strong bitch.  She was lightly shown and gained her Stud book number and SGWC; she also worked well on a local shoot throughout the season.  Wild Rose had one litter to Bob Bobbing Along to Baileydale JW and I have the pleasure of handling Winsleywood Wild Joker at Lyndham; he has won well and has his stud book number having been consistently placed throughout his show career. Willow’s second litter was a typy line bred mating to Int, Ir & Eng Sh Ch Carpenny Made a Million, I found this was a much more even litter and I kept Winsleywood Wild Honey JW ShCM, a beautiful feminine bitch who had the style and quality I was looking to maintain.  She, like her mother, has won consistently and gained 2 RCC’s and also a SGWC and is still winning well into Veteran.

Wild Honey’s pedigree is very Carpenny but helped me to keep the style and type of my foundation bitch.  She herself has produced two litters to two very different sires but interestingly with both has produced the same style and quality.  Her first litter was to Am Multi BISS GCH & Eng Sh Ch Farnfield Topo Gigio JW ShCM and I was lucky to get Winsleywood Wild Anise JW ShCM; still a young bitch but maturing well and has won her way through some strong classes.  Wild Honey’s second litter was also an outcross to Sh Ch Cremino Chilly Pepper ShCM; this has produced Winsleywood Wild Daisy JW who is so typical of my bitches .

2022 sees the addition of Winsleywood Wild Jasmine who is Daisy's daughter.  She was mated to Sandylands Over the Moon to Ludalor JW and combines some of the best british lines to hopefully continue the type I have established. Winsleywood Waghorn at Ravoakar JW and Winsleywood Wellington also come from this mating and are doing very well.

I have had the honour of judging this wonderful breed, a complete honour and something I enjoy immensely.  I am approved to award Challenge Certificates in Labradors and have judged many times both in the UK and abroad.  My interest in judging has extended beyond the breed and I am also approved to award Challenge Certificates in Belgian Shepherd Dogs, Brittany's, Golden Retrievers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers.  I also judge Irish Setters (L2), Field Spaniels (L2), Flatcoated Retrievers (L2), Hungarian Wire Haired Vizsla’s (L2) and Leonbergers (L2).

In addition I work hard with the wider dog world, my roles include

- Secretary of the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Labrador Retriever Club,

- Show Secretary for the United Retriever Club, 

- Assistant to the secretary of Windsor Dog Show Society

- In 2023 I was elected to the Kennel Club Board of Director's

I also formally served on Colchester & DCS as committee member/Show Secretary for nearly 20 years as well as serving on The Labrador Retreiver Club & East of England Championship Show committee's until 2023.

​

I have passed all relevant Kennel Club exams in relating to Show Regulations and in addition to this, to expand my knowledge of Field Trials I attended and passed the Kennel Club J Regulations exam.

​

I am a member of the UK Kennel Club and serve as a Show Liaison Representative for the South & East of England.
